If you do not have a Medicare card (ie: overseas student / tourist), or you want a DEXA scan for a study that is unrelated to bone mineral density testing, you will be charged our modest out-of-pocket fee.
For bone mineral density testing, we fully bulk bill. No gap payment is charged. Thus, your Medicare card handles 100% of the payment – provided you have a GP or Specialist referral.
Patients who do not have a Medicare card will be charged our standard service fee.
In Australia, a GP referral for a DEXA bone mineral density scan is valid for 12 months from the date it was written.
A Specialist referral lasts for 3 months from your first appointment relating to that referral.
This applies to Medicare-eligible bone mineral density scans, not body composition scans (which do not require a referral and are not Medicare-rebated).
Yes. In Australia, radiology referrals are not clinic-specific. You do not need a new referral, provided your initial referral is still valid.
